Physician Scientists

Physician Scientists

The promotion program "Junge Akademie" of the Hannover Medical School, supported by the HZI, is a program that combines medicine and basic sciences in practice. Especially for doctors is this program that exempts the participants from the clinical routine, unique in Germany. It enables young medical professionals to combine their scientific work with the high loads of the clinical routine. The physicians funded in the "Junge Akademie" have a firm place in the clinics of the MHH, practice as clinicians and can simultaneously deepen the patient-centered research in their field.

The program promotes these "Physician Scientists" for a period of three years. They are exempted four months a year from the hospital routine for research activities. During this period they are supervised by two mentors: a medical and a basic research scientists. And during this time they cooperate with partner institutions - such as the TWINCORE. In addition, the "Physician Scientists" obtain financial support for material resources they need within the framework of their research work. Thus, the "Junge Akademie" program of the MHH is a human bridge for research between clinic and laboratory bench - lived translational infection research.
