MyD88 signaling in dendritic cells and the intestinal epithelium controls immunity against intestinal infection with C. rodentium

Panagiota Mamareli

Key message

The specific expression of the Toll-like receptor adapter molecule MyD88 in dendritic cells and the intestinal epithelium is sufficient to induce successful defense mechanism against infection with the pathogen C. rodentium in mice.

Translational perspective

The results of our study regarding specific defense mechanism against gut infections in mice will allow us to investigate those mechanism in human intestinal infections, e.g. with C. difficile.
