Maturation of secreted HCV particles by incorporation of secreted apoE protects from antibodies by enhancing infectivity

Dorothea Bankwitz

Key message

This study shows that HCV particle infectivity is remodelled by secreted ApoE after particle release from cells and fluctuation of the availability of ApoE likely influences HCV infectivity, antibody escape and transmission.

Translational perspective

Clinical research aimed at developing an HCV vaccine should take into account attenuation of antibody neutralization by ApoE in a concentration-dependent manner.
