Key message

We investigated moDC susceptibility to HCMV infection by scRNA-seq. We show that HCMV can infect different subsets of moDC to different extents and that the intrinsic levels of STING are determinants of infection outcome.

Translational perspective

We identified potential new HCMV anti- and pro-viral genes for therapeutic approaches.
