In 2018, Benedikt Hellwinkel finished his bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Hannover and went on to pursue a degree in molecular microbiology. In his master’s thesis at the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine he focused on the characterization of the immune response induced by coronaviruses using in vitro and ex vivo models. As a PhD student in the Institute of Experimental Virology at TWINCORE, Benedikt Hellwinkel is working on the discovery and characterization of inhibitors of human viral respiratory pathogens.
