Professor Doreen Cantrell is a Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow  at the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee.  From 1987 to 2002 she was Head of the Lymphocyte Activation Laboratory at the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute.  Her research interests are focused on T lymphocyte development and activation, a key process to the comprehension and manipulation of mammalian immune responses.  She has published over 180 research papers and was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and EMBO in 2000, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2005 and a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2011. She was awarded Commander of the British Empire in the 2014 New Year Honours. 
She has sat on numerous scientific committees and editorial boards and is currently a Member of the Medical Research Council, the Wellcome Trust Sir Henry Dale Fellowship Interview Committee, a Member of the Babraham Institute Board, The Francis Crick Institute Trustee Board, Trustee of the Royal Society of Edinburgh Council, Chair of the Royal Society of London Society’s Research Grant Scheme Biological Sciences Board and Member of the Royal Society of London Sectional Committee 7.
